2/7/1943 ~ 12/27/2010 William Leon (Klondike) Akers, 67, of Christiansburg, Va., went home to be with the Lord to rest and to be at Peace on Monday, December 27, 2010.

Leon was an avid hunter and fisherman, he loved the outdoors and was a hard worker putting in 25 years with VDOT. He loved his family, his church and all his many friends. He has left us with a hole in our hearts nobody else can fill.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Grace P. Akers; special cousin, Eddie Bain; and favorite aunt, Ruby P. Epperly. Surviving are his companion of 50 years, Betty Lou Dickerson; his sister, Janice Atkinson and husband, Elwood; brother, Pastor Steve Akers and wife, Marilou; special cousins, Barbara Blankenship, Carolyn Stump and husband, Ronnie, and Kenneth Epperly and wife, Ann; nieces and nephews, Crystal Payne and husband, Kirk, Vanessa Holman and Susan Light, Josh Akers and wife, Sara, Adam Bain and wife, Jackie, Lacey Levy and husband, Mark, Lucas Quesenberry, Krystlen Grace Levy, Brody Allen Akers, Katlyn Bain and Jackson Bain; and special companion, his cat “Dolly.”

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 30, 2010, at Horne Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be conducted 2 p.m. on Friday, December 31, 2010, at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Frank Moses officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
