Akers, Virginia Walker

Virginia Walker Akers, 83, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at her home in Radford. She attended Morgan’s Chapel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, James Kyle Akers; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Gary Akers, of Carthage, Ill.; granddaughter and her husband, Sarah and Ian O’Neal, of Bowen, Ill.; two great-grandchildren, Kyle and Kaitlyn O’Neal; sister, Dorothy Skaggs, of Radford; and brother, Johnny Walker, of Chesapeake.

Funeral Services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2011, at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with the Rev. Darlene Marshall officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until the time of the service at 7 p.m. Interment will be at a later date at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Morgan’s Chapel UMC, c/o Buddy Sutton, 7572 Jackson Avenue, Radford, VA 24141 or VFW Post #776, 1303 Wadsworth St., Radford, VA 24141.
