Akers, Sherman Edward

Sherman Edward Akers, 80, of Blacksburg, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2011. He was born on July 17, 1930, in Ironto Va., a son of the late George Akers and Liza Jane Bowles Akers.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Frank Akers, Earl Akers, and Herbert Akers; his twin, Herman Akers; sisters, Violet Browning, Gladys Kanode, Hazel Wheeling, Elsie Ratcliff, and Bernice Garlick; and two infant siblings.

He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews; other family members and friends; and special nephews, Wayne Ratcliff and wife, Darlene, and Herman Akers Jr.

A special thanks to the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice and Heritage Hall Nursing Home.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 26, 2011, from 10 a.m. until noon at Horne’s Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the Dudley Cemetery with the Rev. Dusty Etter officiating. Arrangements by Horne Funeral Service, Inc.
