Guy Wilson Akers Jr., 90, of Dublin, died Friday night, December 23, 2011 in the Highland Ridge Rehab Center, Dublin. He was born in Radford, Va. on August 5, 1921 and was the son of the late Guy W. Akers and Ida Rigney Akers. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Akers and by two brothers, Garland and Donnie Akers.

Mr. Akers was a retired employee of Celanese, Narrows, Va. and was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in World War II.

Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, Philip and Doris Akers, Robert and Debbie Akers, all of Dublin; grandson, Aaron Akers, Dublin; step granddaughter, Jamie King, Richmond; sisters, Irene Palmer, Pulaski, Gloria-Beth Rorrer, Huntersville, N.C.; brothers, Royce Akers, Charleston, S.C. and Jimmy Akers, Greensboro, N.C.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 11 a.m. from the Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin, with Pulaski VFW Post #1184 conducting the military graveside rites. Visiting will be held Thursday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the service hour.
