Akers, John Ernest

John Ernest Akers, age 91, of Christiansburg died, Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at Virginia Veterans Care Center. He was born in Dublin, Va. on December 16, 1929 to the late Forrest Glenn and Margaret Spradlin Akers. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Hildred Imogene Sowers Akers.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Deedra and Butch Stevens, two grandchildren, Shelli Sayers and Thomas Stevens, four great-grandchildren, Lilly, Virginia, Cash and Zelma.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 1, 2021 at 2:00 pm in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Chandler Jones officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Amedisys Hospice Care (1734) 5221 Valley Park Drive, Suite 2, Roanoke, Va. 24019.

The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 pm Thursday prior to the service. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
