James Stanley Akers, 43, of Christiansburg, Va. passed away on Friday, November 19, 2010. He entered many contests because he loved to cook, loved his model cars and his rabbits, and in doing so, won many ribbons and trophies every time. He was a big Virginia Tech Hokies Fan.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ernest Neal and Edith Akers, and an aunt, Judy Carol Akers. He is survived by his mother, Rachel Mamie Akers; brother, Charles McKinley Lee and wife, Rebekah, of Dublin, Va.; sister, Cynthia Michelle Fisher and husband, Anthony, of Riner, Va.; aunts and uncles, Tim and Pat Akers, Betty and Earnest (Sonny) Hylton, Ernest Junior Akers and Rebekah Leah Akers, all of Christiansburg, Va.; and lots of cousins, friends, nieces and nephews, all of whom were very special to him.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the funeral home to help offset funeral expenses.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 21, 2010 from 3 until 5 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted on Monday, November 22, 2010 at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Horne Funeral Home with Pastor Neal Stump officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
