Hobert Charlie Akers, 80, of Barren Springs, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2011 in the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Winston Salem, N.C. Born February 7, 1931 in Pulaski County, he was the son of the late Hobert Asa Akers and Roberta Gay Ratcliffe Akers. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

He was the owner of Akers Cabinet Shop in Pulaski. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Akers was a member of the Rockford United Methodist Church in Fairlawn.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Pagan Akers, Barren Springs; children, Ricky Gene Akers and fiance, Myra Albert, Pulaski, Rhonda Sue Akers, Pulaski, Donna Renee Williams and fiance, Jimmy Dalton, Pulaski, Paul Wayne Akers and wife, Angie Akers, Pulaski, Wendy Shannon Marshall, and husband, Michial Marshall, Allisonia; 16 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Akers, Radford; brothers-in-law, Bill Galt, Indiana, Calvin Hong, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Lena Parks, Newport News, Brenda Peters, Newport News; Robin Breedlove, Pulaski; brothers-in-law, Bobby Pagan, N.C.; Barry Pagan, N.C.

Funeral services will be held Saturday 11 a.m., November 26, 2011 in the Bower Funeral Home Chapel, Pulaski with the Rev. Darlene Marshall officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin with military honors conducted at the graveside by the Pulaski V.F.W .Post #1184. The family will receive friends and family Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
