Akers, Dorothy Poff

Dorothy Poff Akers, 89, died peacefully on Monday night, December 1, 2008, in Blacksburg, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice T. Akers; six brothers; and three sisters.

She is survived by one daughter, Bonnie A. Cochran; and one son, Maurice (Bud) Akers Jr. and wife, Winki; four grandchildren, Lisa Stone and husband, Jay, Jon Akers and wife, Shannon, Tara Vance and husband, Chuck, and Stuart Cochran and wife, Debbie, seven greatgrandchildren, Cody, Dylan, and Ty Akers, Emma, Audrey and Evan Stone, and Bailey Vance; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2008, at Horne Funeral Home. The graveside service will be held 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2008, at Greasy Creek Cemetery in Floyd County with Pastor Roy Turpin officiating as per Mrs. Akers request.
