Curtis Wesley Akers, 79 of Little River, S.C. and formerly of Floyd, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 surrounded by his daughters and granddaughters. He is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce M. Akers; parents, Colon and Bessie Akers; and brothers, Marlin and Harless Akers.

He was formerly a member of New Harvest Ministries in Willis, VA and attended Barefoot Community Church after moving to South Carolina. He retired from AGI Industries in High Point, N.C.

He is survived by his daughters, Patricia A. Turner and husband Tim of Little River, S.C., and Kathy A. Auman and husband Richard of High Point, N.C.; grandchildren, Stephen Franklin of Blacksburg, VA, Julia Franklin of Norfolk, VA, and Kari Turner of Little River, S.C.; step-grandchildren, Amanda Turner and Tabitha Turner; great-grandchild, Reese Franklin of Atlanta, G.A.; brother, Grover Akers and wife Nita of Floyd, V.A.; and sisters, Marie Trail of Floyd, V.A. and Beulah Sweeney and husband Bruce of Floyd, V.A. Also surviving are many well-loved nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at Noon Saturday, December 17, 2011 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Roy Bentley officiating. Interment to follow at Jacksonville Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2011 at the funeral home.
