Charlie Bruce (Bootsie) Akers, 84, of Pulaski, Va., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 28, 2014, in the Pulaski Health & Rehab Center. He was the son of the late Garnie B. Akers and Audie Taylor Akers of Pulaski. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Charlie Wayne Akers and Michael Anthony Akers, also of Pulaski; and by two brothers and four sisters.

Mr. Akers was retired by Xaloy, Inc. after 26 years of service and was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korea Conflict.

Surviving are wife of 63 years, Betty Quesenberry Akers; son, Gary Lee Akers Sr.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at noon on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, from the Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dales Akers and the Rev. Wilfred Overton officiating. Burial will follow in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Dublin with Full Military Honors from Pulaski VFW Post #1184. Visitation will be held on Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the service hour.
