Akers, Charles Frederick
Charles Frederick Akers, 59, of Suttle Drive in Pembroke, departed this life quietly at his home Thursday morning, December 18, 2008. Charles was born in Bluefield, W.Va. on December 23, 1948, a son of John Frederick Akers and Lora Rebecca Alexander Akers. He was employed with the Radford Army Ammunition Plant, at Radford, was a veteran of the United States Navy, attended Castle Rock Baptist Church, in Pembroke, was just honored to be a life member of Giles Rescue Squad, was a 1969 graduate of Narrows High School, and will forever be remembered as a great T-Ball Coach. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Calvin Akers. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 29 years, Linda Robertson Akers; his mother, Lora Alexander Akers, of Narrows; his father, John Frederick Akers, of Princeton, W.Va.; his stepmother, Lois Akers, of Princeton, W.Va.; his sons, Glenn David Greever and Matasha, of Dublin, and Charles Eric Akers and Stacey, of Pembroke; his daughters, Mary Lynn Dobbins and Mike, of Pembroke, and Sherry Akers Williams and David, of Hickory, N.C.; his sister, Sue Akers Anderson, of Salem; his half sister, Annie Higginbotham, of Princeton, W.Va.; his grandchildren, Lindsay Dobbins, Erika Dobbins, Kendall Dobbins, Peyton Dobbins, Madison Williams, Landon Williams, Karen Greever, Tanner Greever, Kaylee Akers, Logan Akers. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with the Rev. Dr. Fred Austin officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park, in Pearisburg. The Giles Rescue Squad will serve as pallbearers.
