Carl Wayne “Wayno” Akers, 59, of Radford, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 15, 2014. Wayne spent over 30 years as a machinist at Inland Motors. He had a great talent for all kinds of wood work, and found many ways to join that talent with his love of photography. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Junior and Mary Sutphin Akers.

Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Regina and Donnie Wallace of Radford, and Samantha Akers of Roanoke; granddaughters, Sydney and Sadie Wallace; sisters and brother-in-law, Brenda and Dan Callahan of Pulaski, and Judy A. Epperly of Radford; niece, Wendy Epperly-Gilbert; nephews, Shane Callahan and Jason Callahan; special great nieces, Tess Gilbert and Alexandria Gilbert; former wife and mother of his children, Donna Thompson of Christiansburg; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. The family would like to thank Christine Hite, his home healthcare nurse, for her valiant efforts when she found him in cardiac arrest. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Kenny Wurzburger officiating. Interment will follow in the Big Sand Cemetery in Indian Valley. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Riner Volunteer Rescue Squad, PO Box 858, Riner, VA 24149.
