Akers, Bryant Ellis
The funeral for Bryant Ellis Akers, 50, of Floyd, who died Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, will be held at 1 p.m. today at Maberry Funeral Home chapel in Floyd. The Rev. Clinton Crump will officiate. Burial will be in Big Oak cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral chapel for one hour before the service today.
Akers was born in Roanoke on May 14, 1957, to Ellis C. Akers and Mary F. Akers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Cambridge Akers and Charles Akers; and a granddaughter, Jamaria Harrison.
He graduated from Floyd County High School and attended Nashville Auto-Diesel College in Nashville, Tenn. He worked at Hollingsworth Vose Co. until becoming disabled. Akers was a member of Little River Missionary Baptist Church, where he sang in the Male Chorus.
Surviving are his wife, Teressa Akers of Roanoke; a son, Shawn Akers of Roanoke; a daughter, April Akers of Floyd; a brother, Rev. Dennis Akers of Floyd; a sister, Constance Shelton of Ridgeway; and four grandchildren.
