Akers, Bobby Lee

Bobby Lee Akers, 61, of Christiansburg, died on Monday, March 4, 2013, at Lewis Gale Medical Center. He was born in Christiansburg, Va., on April 5, 1951, to the late Willie Allen and Mary Elizabeth Stump Akers. He was also preceded in death by a son, Bobby Todd Akers; and a daughter, Donna Thomason.

He is survived by his wife, Donna M. Akers, of Christiansburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry Akers Dauel Robinson and husband, Ron, of Dublin, and Natasha Akers and husband, William Tawney, of Christiansburg; son, Robert Dawson Sheets, of Christiansburg; two stepsons and daughters-in-law, Barry Lynn and Christi Elliott, of Kentucky, and Michael Steven McGuire and Shenna Orange, of Blacksburg; stepdaughter, Diana Kylene Slusher, of Riner; 12 grandchildren, Emily, Zachary, Zoey, Ashlyn, Hunter, Makayla, Lyndsey, T.J., Mallory, Gavin, Joseph, and Jessica; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosemary and Paul Rutherford, of Kernersville, N.C., Sally and John Smith, of Christiansburg, and Wesley and Larry Needham, of Belews Creek, N.C.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Steve Akers, of Plum Creek, Billy Joe and Joyce Akers, of Huffville, and Alex and Rhonda Akers, of Christiansburg; special son-in-law, Kurt Dauel; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2013, in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jube Burk and the Rev. Everette Shepherd officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. Friends may call anytime after noon on Thursday, March 7, 2013, and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, SW, Blacksburg, Va., 540-552-3211.
