amem_fishinghole.jpgBalford Collen Akers (Uncle Rowdy), 74, of Fagg, Va., died peacefully at his home, Thursday morning, May 22, 2008, with his family by his side. Born in Montgomery County, Va., on April 2, 1934, to the late Freeman and Lucy Early Akers, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Curtis Akers; and a sister, Reba Meredith.

Surviving are his family, Norman and Brenda Woods, Crystal and Jeff and Elija Hicks, Misty, Matthew, Mandy and Dillyn Osborne, Aaron and Esther Woods; brothers, Alvin and Annie Akers, of Salem, Va., John Beamer and Elouise Akers, of Riner, Va., George and Joyce Akers, of Fagg, Va., and Raymond and Charlotte Akers, of Riner, Va.; sisters, Beulah Nester, of Blacksburg, Va., Beva and Henderson Woods, of Fagg, Va., and Betty Linkous, of Prices Fork, Va.; sister-in-law, Edith Akers Conley, of Salem, Va.; 35 nieces and nephews; 73 greatnieces and nephews; and many great great nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shawsville Rescue Squad, Box 14, Shawsville, Va. 24162. The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2008, at the Riverview Holiness Church.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2008, in the Riverview Holiness Church conducted by the Rev. Ellis Meredith with interment in the Akers Family Cemetery.
