Agoston, Katalin Lenke
Katalin Lenke Agoston, 71, of Blacksburg, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014, the first day of Spring. Kati was born on December 29, 1942, in Budapest, Hungary. She was preceded in death by her parents, Istvan and Emma Varady; and two older brothers, Istvan and Jozsef Varady.
Seeking a better life, Kati escaped from communist Hungary with her husband Gabor Agoston in 1968. With the assistance of her cousin Adorjan Szeless, late professor of engineering at Virginia Tech, Kati and Gabor were able to settle in Blacksburg, and raise a family together.
Kati worked in the Virginia Tech Printing Dept. for 33 years. She was the most loving and caring mother and friend. Kati loved the outdoors, working in the garden, and being with her grandchildren. A student for life, she enjoyed reading and photography, studying French language and researching the family history.
She is survived by her husband and best friend of 49 years, Gabor Agoston; her sons, Attila and Peter Agoston; daughter-in-law, Shawna Dewitt; grandchildren Ruby and Emmet; and brother and sister, Kalman and Emma Varady.
Funeral Mass will be conducted 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2014, in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home Blacksburg, (540) 552-3211.
