Absher, Virginia Smith Akers

Virginia Aileen Smith Akers Absher (Mommy Akers), 92, of Dublin, went to be with her Heavenly Father on November 6, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grover and Gladys Smith; her husband, Harold Absher Sr.; three brothers; and four sisters.

She is survived by her son, Charles W. Akers (Patsy), of Dublin; and her daughter, Carolyn Thompson (Zebbie), of Dublin; four grandchildren: Curtis Thompson (Sheri), of Roanoke, Diane Finn, of King, N.C., Jennifer Shartzer (Scott), of Dublin, and Jimmy Smith (Sandy), of Draper. She has nine precious great-grandchildren; her sisters, Rahma S. Kirkwood and Lydia S. Reece; her extended family, Don Akers (Janice), Joyce Page (Jerry), Harold Absher (Linda), Nadine Price, Wanda Croy (William), and their families; and her dear devoted friend, Nora Stanberry. She was a member of Dublin Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends on November 9, 2013, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Dublin Baptist Church. A celebration of her life will begin at 2 p.m. with the Reverends Dennis Jones and Scott Shartzer officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin.
