David L. Woods, “Sweet Pea” age 80 of Pearisburg, Virginia passed away August 16, 2025. He was born on February 5, 1945 as a son of the late William and Irene Woods.

He was a retired Navy Veteran and a President’s man for many years. He loved to hunt and watch westerns. He also loved his fur baby, Snuffy.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Jessica Johnson (Troy Haley); 5 grandchildren, Michael P Lewis (Sabrina Fones), Edward Johnson (Brittany), Megan Johnson (USMC Corporal Seth Morcom); 2 bonus grandchildren, Leigha Johnson and Lisa Johnson; 3 great-grandchildren, Jadalyn, Makenzie, and Aubrey; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Woods and Donna Woods; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, friends and in-laws; and a dear friend, Jean O’Dell; and a special friend and caretaker, Anita E Reynolds.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Janney Woods; three brothers, James (Nancy) Woods, Larry, and Charles; and many other precious loved ones.

The family would like to thank Lewis-Gale Medical Center-Salem and Good Samaritan Hospice for the care they gave to David.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Giles Rescue and Life Saving Crew or to the Newport Volunteer Rescue Squad.

The family will receive friends at a time of visitation on Friday, August 22, 2025 from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM in Kendall Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, August 22, 2025 at 1:00 PM in Kendall Funeral Home with Pete Woods officiating. Funeral Services will conclude in Birchlawn Burial Park where he will be laid to rest and Military Honors presented by the United States Navy and American Legion Posts 68, 311, and 145.
