Willis, Sidney Darryl

Sidney “Darryl” Wills, age 79, of Peterstown, West Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024. Born August 16, 1944, in Giles County, Virginia, he was the son of the late Otis Carr Wills and Elsie Mae Chambers Wills.

Darryl was a 1962 graduate of Peterstown High School. Upon graduation, he served in the Army’s elite 82nd Airborne division, whose motto is “Death from Above!” He made 37 jumps and saw combat in Santa Domingo, facts that were a great source of honor and pride to him.

Upon leaving the military, he had a long career in road construction by operating heavy equipment and serving as a job foreman on many of the roads we currently travel in Virginia and West Virginia. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, and buying cars. He was a much beloved son, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Douglas Wills, John Wills, Julian Wills, and sisters Nancy Wills, Phyllis Wills, Diana Wills, Rita Wills, and Laura Wills Boone Bailey. He is survived by two children, Barry Wills and wife Becky of Peterstown, WV; daughter Rhonda Wills Pennington and husband Michael of Peterstown, WV; sister Vernetta Wills Tritt of Peterstown, WV; grandchildren Brett McDaniel of Radford, VA; Jennifer Wills Galford and husband Shane of Lindside, WV; Traci Wills Mitchem and husband Justin of Princeton, WV; and four very special great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Hailey Galford and Reed and Parker Mitchem.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, WV, with Pastor Randy Penwell officiating. Burial will follow at the Peterstown Cemetery in Rich Creek, VA. Visitation will be held from 1:00PM until time of services on Sunday at the funeral home.
