Williams, Winfred Brown

Winfred Brown Williams, affectionately known as “Wimpy” by family and friends, age 80 of Pembroke, Virginia departed this life April 21, 2024 at his homeplace. Born in Pearisburg, Virginia on April 10, 1944 he was a son of the late Charles Winfred “Charlie Went” Williams and Mildred Brown Williams “Mickey”.

Wimpy laid a foundation for a life marked by dedication, service, and a profound love for his community. A proud alumnus of Virginia Tech, Wimpy graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1966. His commitment to his country was evident through his service in the US Army during the Vietnam Era, a time that tested his resolve and honed his leadership skills. Following his military service, Wimpy returned to his roots in Virginia and embarked on a notable career in research at Virginia Tech. Wimpy further embraced his life of a farmer with vigor and joy. Wimpy’s hardworking nature was only matched by his love of people, especially children. He possessed a natural ability to connect with the younger generation, imparting wisdom and laughter in equal measure.
Travel was another of Wimpy’s interests, allowing him to explore all that the world had to offer in beauty and warmth.

Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Jeanie Johnston of Catawba, Virginia; nephew, Greg Johnston (Amie); nieces, Kimberly Bolden (Marty), and Lisa Jean Whorley; and several great nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members.

There will be a celebration of life held in Wimpy’s honor Sunday, April 28, 2024 from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM at the homeplace for family and friends. A guestbook is available to send condolences to the family by visiting www.kendallfuneralhome.com. The staff of Kendall Funeral Home are honored to serve the Williams family.
