Vencill, Herbert Stephen

Herbert Stephen Vencill, 75 of Bluefield, Virginia known affectionately as Steve to his loved ones passed away on June 13, 2024 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center with his daughter by his side. He was born in Pearisburg, Virginia, and was raised in Ripplemead, Virginia before moving to Bluefield where he made his life. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, H.C. “Jack” Vencill and Mary Bostic Vencill, as well as his sister, Portia Vencill Munsey.

He graduated from Giles High School in 1966 and pursued further education at Radford University. Together with his father, he owned Vencill’s Trucking. After selling the trucking business he owned and operated Barkay Estates until his retirement in 2016.

Steve’s passions included outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, and camping; often shared with his close friend, the late Gale Blevins. He shared vacations spent with both friends and family, creating lasting memories along the way.

He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Vencill of Pearisburg, Virginia; and by Todd Munsey and Michele Munsey Fox, his niece and nephew from Greensboro, North Carolina; and Dane Blevins of Ripplemead, Virginia whom he thought of as a son. He is also survived by a host of cousins and friends. Hampton Munsey, his brother-in-law, also from Greensboro, North Carolina will deliver the eulogy at his funeral service.

Visitation for Steve will take place on Friday, June 21, 2024 from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke, Virginia. A funeral service will follow on Friday, June 21, 2024 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel. Following the service, Steve will be laid to rest at Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, Virginia near his beloved parents.

In honor of Steve’s memory, his daughter, Barbara has requested that donations be made to a favorite charity or local church in lieu of flowers.
