amem_lighthouse.jpgJohn William Veith, Jr. left this world to meet his Savior on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at his home in Snowville after a lengthy illness.

He was born on December 6, 1925 in New Orleans, La., the son of the late John W., Sr. and Laura Shaw Veith. John served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II and when discharged, enrolled in the Southern School of Graphic Design in Nashville, Tenn. He pursued a career in printing during his lifetime.

While living in Radford, he owned and operated Triangle Printing until retirement in 1994. In retirement, he enjoyed his hobbies of raising game birds and woodworking. He and his wife Jeanne shared 61 years of married life and the couple was blessed with two children. John was ordained as a Deacon at Grace Baptist Church of Baton Rouge, La. in 1958 and was a member of Fairlawn Baptist Church. John was past-president of the Radford Chamber of Commerce, a Rotarian, one of the founders of the outdoor drama, “The Long Way Home”, served on the United Way, American Heart Assoc., and supported the Radford Fire Dept. as well as the Snowville Volunteer Fire Dept. and Rescue Squad.

Survivors are his wife, Jeanne Wilder Veith of Snowville; a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Nancy Veith of Christiansburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol Jeanne and W. Keith Southern of Canonsburg, Pa.; a brother and sister-in-law, Daniel A. and Dianne Calongne Veith of Metairie, La.; a brother-in-law and his wife, Mike Wilder and Judy Ganser of Chippewa Falls, Wis.; 11 grandchildren, Holly Hughes Veith of Knoxville, Tenn., Kelly Hughes Veith of Blacksburg, Ellen Hope Veith of Christiansburg, Laura Jeanne Samples and her husband Rodney of Houston, Pa., Mark A. Moorhouse, Kevin A. Moorhouse, Sean A. Southern and Jason M. Southern, all of Canonsburg, Pa.; a niece, Karen Marie Veith of Denver, Colo.; and a nephew, Richard Brian Veith of New York, N.Y. The family wishes to extend thanks for the many expressions of support and prayers during John’s illness.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 1, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with the Rev. Gary Long officiating. Interment will follow in the Newbern Cemetery in Newbern. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
