Freeman M. Vaughan, 91, of Galax, died Sunday, December 24, 2006 at the Forsyth Medical Center, Winston Salem, N.C. Mr. Vaughan was born July 17, 1915 to Ed and Ida Finn Vaughan in Floyd County, Va. His wife, Hallie Brannock Vaughan, preceded him in death and he is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Maurice and Janice Vaughan; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda V. and John Moraski, II, both of Galax; grandchildren, Janique Vaughan Oldham and David of Galax, Felicia Vaughan Shields and Scott of Boca Raton, Fla., John Moraski, III of Galax, and Jay M. Moraski and Terrie of Galax; great-grandchildren, Joyjahna, Cole, Jaelind, Ava, and Maceo; sister, Mrs. James Hess (Vivian) of Galax; special friend, Norene Horton; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Felts Cemetery. Officiating ministers are the Rev. Tom Whartenby and the Rev. R. Claxton Hall. Visitation will be held at the church from 12:30 until 2 p.m. prior to the funeral service.

Mr. Vaughan was the recipient of the Soldiers Medal and served in World War II. Military Rites will be performed by the Grayson VFW Post #7726. Masonic Rites will be performed by Lodge #68. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Galax Foundation for Excellence in Education, P.O. Box 487, Galax, Va. 24333. Arrangements are by Vaughan Guynn Funeral Home, Galax.
