VARNEY, Adelaide R.

Adelaide Ruth Holsten Varney, 95, of Blacksburg, Virginia, formerly of East Rockaway, N.Y. and Naples, Fla., passed away on Monday, May 15, 2006.

She was an avid golfer and won many trophies while residing in Naples. She was currently a member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church of Blacksburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Charles O. Varney; and two brothers, Milton C. Holsten and Elbert A. Holsten.

She is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Jeanne Eichna and Carol and Tom Reid; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Sandra Varney; grandchildren and their spouses, Cherie and Bobby Taylor, Cindy and Bill Edmunds, David and Lisa Eichna, Debbie and Tom Sheckells, Diane and Bobby Coltrane, Tom and Susan Reid, Bill Reid, Tammy and John Boyd, Karly and Andrew Powars; and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 28, 2006 at Luther Memorial at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Gary Schroeder officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church narthex. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Luther Memorial Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 600 Prices Fork Road, Blacksburg, Va. 24060.
