Underwood, Noah Jackson

Rev Noah Jackson Underwood, 94, of Blacksburg, died Monday, February 20, 2006 at Heritage Hall Health Care Center. He was born in Rising Sun, Maryland on April 15, 1911 to the late A. B. and Laura Belle Holbrook Underwood. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna M. Underwood.

Rev. Underwood was a missionary to the Cherokees in North Carolina in the 1950’s and also pastored in Galax and in many of the local churches for the past 60 years.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Naomi and Bob Rowland of Warminster, Penn.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Virginia Underwood of Christiansburg, Cecil and Belle Underwood of Blacksburg, Tommy and Lori Underwood of Tacoma, Washington; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Bowers of Riner; two brothers and sister-in-law, Elmer Underwood of Christiansburg, Arthur and Cornelius Underwood of Stanton, Va.; a sister-in-law, Bertha Burk Underwood of Bedford; numerous nieces and nephews; and several special friends from Warm Hearth.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, February 23, 2006 at 2 p.m. in the Blacksburg First Wesleyan Church with Rev. David Hurd, Rev. Richard Gilbert, Rev. John Hopkins, and Rev. Rador Vaden officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. Friends may call anytime after 3 p.m. Wednesday at Blacksburg First Wesleyan Church on Giles Road, and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the church.
