Tawney, Minor Chapman

Minor Chapman Tawney, 73, of Pembroke, died Monday, July 24, 2006 at his home in the Hoges Chapel Community.

Born in Giles County on July 14, 1933, he was a son of the late Daugherty Tawney and Evelyn Meredith Tawney Martin and stepson of the late Rob Martin. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Pembroke Virginia State, New River Ward, was retired from a career in the US Air Force having served in The Korean War and was retired from the fire department at Virginia Tech. His beloved wife, Barbara Williams Tawney preceded him in death last Saturday and also a brother, Curtis Tawney.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Darrel and Linda Tawney of Narrows; his two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Eddie Stevens of Schertz, Texas and Sherry and Bill Phillips III of Williamsburg, Va.; a brother, Buford Tawney of Narrows; two sisters, Ruth Casper of Elgood, W.Va. and Geraldine “Jerri” Lawson of Hampton, Va.; six grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Pembroke with burial following in the Lucas-Williams Cemetery in Pembroke. The family will receive friends at the church Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Carilion Hospice, The American Heart Association or the Arthritis Foundation.
