Tawney, Barbara Jane Williams
Barbara Jane Williams Tawney, 72, of Pembroke, died Saturday, July 22, 2006 at her home in the Hoges Chapel Community.
Born in Giles County on October 12, 1933 she was a daughter of the late Donald Williams and Evelyn Lucas Williams Rumburg. A beloved mother and grandmother, she was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Pembroke Virginia Stake, New River Ward. A half brother, Ronald Rumburg, preceded her in death.
She was survived by her husband, Minor Chapman Tawney, who has now joined her in paradise, and her son and daughter-in-law, Darrel and Linda Tawney of Narrows; her two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Eddie Stevens of Schertz, Texas and Sherry and Bill Phillips III of Williamsburg, Va.; two half brothers, Bill Rumburg of Hampton and Jerry Rumburg of Camp Lejeune, N.C.; a sister, Connie Akers of Hampton, Va.; six grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Pembroke with burial following in the Lucas-Williams Cemetery in Pembroke. The family will receive friends at the church Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
