swim_joyce_templeJoyce Matthews Temple Swim, 77, a loving mother and grandmother, passed away quietly on Tuesday, September 27, 2016. She was a dedicated mother who left a career in teaching to devote herself to nurturing her family.

She later rejoined the workforce and enjoyed a successful career in banking, culminating in her appointment as an officer of the First National Bank of Christiansburg. After retiring, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are her daughter, Lynne Marie Temple of Burlington, N.C.; son, Tommy Hoyle Temple, Jr. and wife, Carol of Deep Gap, N.C.; daughter, Laura Temple Wallace and husband, Scott of Greensboro, N.C.; brother, Corwin Griffith Matthews, Jr. and wife, Jan of Tualapin, Ore.; sister, Frances Matthews Hunter and husband Dennis of Radford, Va.; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Corwin Griffith Matthews, Sr. and wife, Ethel Cannada Matthews; brother, Frederick Wayne Matthews; spouse, Tommy Hoyle Temple, Sr.; and spouse, Donald Lee Swim.

The family will receive friends beginning at 2 p.m. on Friday September 30, 2016 at DeVilbiss Funeral Home in Radford. A graveside service will immediately follow at 3 p.m. at Sunrise Burial Park in Fairlawn.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to local Hospice organizations.
