SUTPHIN, Friel Allen

Friel Allen Sutphin, 79 of Radford, was called to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 15, 2006 and to join his wife of 52 years, Lavenia Lucille Lester Sutphin who preceded him in death on April 7, 2006.

He was born in Floyd County on March 20, 1927 the son of the late Thomas Grayden and Minnie Pearl Akers Sutphin. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Anita and Gary Hodge, and Bonnie and Michael Robinette, all of Dublin; three sons and daughter-in-law, Dale Sutphin of Dublin, Randal and Debbie Sutphin of Radford, and Merle Sutphin of Christiansburg; six grandchildren and their spouses, Carrie Hodge of Harrisonburg, Jeremy Hodge of Dublin, Andrea and Issam Abi-Saab of Harrisonburg, Miranda and Art Lucia of Aldie, Christina and Marco OrtizShaemaker of Germany, and Kara Sutphin of Radford; two great-grandchildren, Aidan Lucia of Aldie and Carolina OrtizShaemaker of Germany; four brothers, Draper Sutphin of Pulaski, MacArthur Sutphin of Pulaski, Carlos Sutphin of Christiansburg, and Franklin Sutphin of Dublin; and two sisters, Sibil Lester of Christiansburg, and Gwen Smith of North Carolina.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 19, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Rev. Tom Rice officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery in Pulaski County where members of VFW Post #776 will conduct military graveside rites. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
