Susano, Elizabeth Crawley

susano_elizabeth_crawleyElizabeth Crawley Susano, 68, of Blacksburg, Va., died peacefully Wednesday evening, September 29, 2010, at home after a three-year battle with lymphoma. Liz was born September 6, 1942, in Knoxville, Tenn. to the late George G. and Eva Mae H. Crawley.

She graduated from Knoxville Catholic High School and St. Mary’s School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse for over 45 years, and retired from Carilion New River Medical Center three years ago.

She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Tommy Susano, of Blacksburg; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathi Susano and Kenneth Godbey, of Christiansburg and Jennifer Susano and David King, of Knoxville, Tenn.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Anita Crawley, of Ellicott City, Md. and Mark and Diane Crawley, of Jonesboro, Ga., and treasured grandchildren, Sarah Moore, Westley Godbey, and Emily Godbey.

The family would like to thank Dr. Harry McCoy and the staff at Blue Ridge Cancer Care and the Carilion Clinic Hospice nurses for their care and support of both Liz and the family throughout her illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated by Fathers Remi Sojka and John Prinelli, on Saturday, October 2, 2010, 1 p.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Memorial Gardens of the New River Valley, both in Blacksburg. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday evening at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg. Recitation of the Rosary will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church Development Fund, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, or a charity of your choice.
