Margaret Anne Williams Stevens, RN, MPH, of Greenville, N.C., passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2010. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, January 11, 2010, at the First Baptist Church in Radford. Burial will be in the Sunrise Burial Park at a later date. She was a native of Radford, Va., and moved to Cypress Glen Retirement Community in Greenville, N.C., in 2000. Margaret Anne was born in Dublin, Va., on May 17, 1916, the daughter of the late D.E. and Nellie Williams. Margaret Anne received training in nursing at St. Luke’s Hospital in Richmond and received a Masters of Public Health degree at UNC-Chapel Hill. She enjoyed her 30 plus year career as a public health nurse in several counties of Southwest Virginia. Margaret Anne was a devoted, life-long member of the First Baptist Church of Radford where she taught Sunday School for children for many years. She attended Immanuel Baptist Church in Greenville after moving to Cypress Glen. Her hobbies were gardening, walking, traveling and bridge. Margaret Anne loved her family, her church, her patients and her friends. She had many good friends in the Radford area and at Cypress Glen, especially including Ms. Charity Holland. Margaret Anne was also preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Williams Irons and Francis Williams Farris. She is survived by brothers, Fred Williams and wife, Barbara, of Orlando, Fla., Dan Williams and wife, Elane, of South Orleans, Mass., and Harry Williams, of Wilmington, N.C.; and sisters, Nancy Williams Thompson, of Radford, Va., and Peggy Williams Pryor and husband, Bill, of Greenville. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held at Mullins Funeral Home in Radford on Sunday, January 10, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. The family extends appreciation to Dr. Kenneth Steinweg, Dr. Steinweg’s staff and the nurses of Cypress Glen for her excellent health care. Our thanks also to the nursing assistants in the Skilled Nursing Unit for her excellent personal care.
