st.clair_betty_carrBetty Jane Carr St.Clair, 66, of 7519 Bluff View Drive in Radford, Va., died on Sunday, September 26, 2010, at New River Valley Medical Center in Radford. Born April 14, 1944, in Marlinton, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Dr. Robert E. Carr Sr. and Pauline Smith Ralston Carr.

She was a 1962 graduate of Princeton High School, a 1967 graduate of Concord University where she was named the Outstanding Home Economics Student and received history honors. She also received her Master’s Degree from Radford University in 1975. Betty was a learning disability and teen living teacher at Blacksburg Middle School in Blacksburg, Va., with 35 years service retiring in 2001.

In 1971, Betty was named as one of the Outstanding Women of America while serving as Health Education Director in a nine county area for the Southern Regional Health Council. She was a member, past secretary and past president of Kappa Omicron Phi Sorority, past member and secretary of Kappa Delta Pi Sorority, a member of the Princeton Women’s Club, and Princeton Jaycee-ettes. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Princeton and had been a resident of Pulaski County in Virginia since 1973 residing in Dublin for 21 years and Radford for 16 years moving there from Princeton.

Betty was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved her family and friends and was given to hospitality. She pursued relationships with and was very generous to people and animals in need. Betty loved animals and pets and was often brought to tears when she read about or saw animal abuse. She also loved to read one of her favorite books being “The Blessing of Animals.” Her favorite Bible verses include Isaiah 11:6-9, the 23rd Psalm, Genesis 1:24, Proverbs 12:10, and Exodus 23:4-12.

Survivors include her husband, Terrance Shane “Terry” St.Clair Sr., of Radford, Va.; one daughter, D. Paige Wimmer, of Radford; one son, T. Shane St.Clair II and wife, Laura, of Shady Springs, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Carley St.Clair, Matthew St.Clair, and Daniel Wimmer; one sister, Nancy R. Clark and husband, Jasper, of Midlothian, Texas; one brother, Robert E. Carr Jr. and wife, Carol, of Dallas, Texas; two nieces, Jennifer Breito and husband, Mike, of Crowley, Texas, and Amanda Ford and husband, Brian, of Beckley, W.Va.; and four nephews, Dr. Jeff St.Clair, of New Orleans, La., Dr. Shawn St.Clair, of Charleston, W.Va., Phillip Norman and wife, Michelle, of Beckley, W.Va., and John R. Carr and wife, Mary, of Fort Worth, Texas.

Funeral Services will be conducted 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 2, 2010, at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with Dr. Paul Lane officiating. In keeping with Betty’s wishes her body will be cremated following the service. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the service hour on Saturday.

Betty requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to the Pulaski County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1046, Dublin, Va. 24084.
