Smith, Wayne Thad

Wayne Thad Smith, 68, of Newport (Simmonsville), passed away Friday, January 20, 2006. He was U.S. Navy retired after 30 years of service. He was a flight engineer for the Blue Angels and Master Chief VRF31 Naval Air Station, Norfolk.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Delma “Dee” Greer Smith; son, Wayne Thad Smith, Jr.; parents, Lonnie Lee and Dorothy Sullivan Smith; brothers, Frank, Bennie and Richard; sister, Dorothy.

He is survived by wife, June Flowers Smith; children, Sherrie Greear White and husband Dale, Suzanne Wijnands and husband Dion, Wayne T. Smith II and wife Teresa, Janet Thornton, Tommy Flowers and wife Loretta, Tim Flowers and wife Cathy, 14 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 24, 2006 12 p.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church. Interment will be at the Koger Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, January, 23, 2006 at Paitsel Funeral Home, New Castle.
