Smith, Alvin W.
Alvin W. Smith, of Blacksburg, Virginia, died August 1, 2006.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella B. Smith.
As part of the “greatest generation” he worked during World War II with the Manhattan Project, later to be known as the Atomic Energy Commission. After employment with the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Tennessee, he and his wife moved to Montgomery County, Virginia where he served in the Office of Institutional Research and Planning at Virginia Tech until his retirement.
A receiving of friends will be held on August 5, 2006 at 3 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg, Virginia. At a later date the ashes of Alvin and Stella Smith will be scattered at a favored place on the Clinch River in Tennessee.
