Slate, Nannie Steele

Nannie Lou Steele Slate, 80, of Riner, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 18, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Frank Slate, parents, Mary and James Oliver Steele, sister, Colleen Reynolds and a niece, Rita Gail Reynolds.

Mrs. Slate retired from the dietary department at the Salem VA Medical Center. She was a senior citizen dispatcher for the Montgomery County Sherriff Department and a member of the Riner Ruritan Club.

Surviving are her son, Leon H. Slate and wife, Tammy, of Roanoke; grandson, Weston Slate; stepgranddaughter, Amber Wilson; sisters, Myrtle Addison, of Wytheville and Bessie Reynolds and husband, Clyde, of Florida; stepbrother, Clyde Austin, of Richlands; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Simpson Funeral Home, 366-0707.
