Slate, Inez Kiser

Inez Kiser Slate, 96, of Richmond, Va., formerly of Pulaski, Va., passed away Thursday, July 6, 2006. She was preceded in death by her husband, Coy Dolphus Slate, Jr.

Mrs. Slate is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Martha S. Thornhill, Betty S. and Clarence M. Conner, Jr.; son, James R. Slate, Sr.; grandchildren, William S. Thornhill and wife, Sarah, Sarah R. Thornhill, Laura T. Sylvester and husband, David, Susan S. Conner, Katherine C. Cook and husband, Edward, Ann V. Slate, James R. Slate, Jr. and wife, Abby; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth M. Cook, Caroline G. Cook, Anna M. Cook, Zoe M. Thornhill, Finn C. Thornhill.

Mrs. Slate, a native of Stokes County, N.C. was a registered nurse and graduate of Martin Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Mt. Airy, N.C. and retired from Pulaski Community Hospital in 1975. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Pulaski, Va.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 9, 2006 at Stevens Funeral Home, in Pulaski. Graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m., Monday, July 10, 2006 at Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the First Baptist Church, Pulaski, Va.
