Skeens, Sr., Samuel Franklin

Samuel Franklin Skeens, Sr., 66, of Pulaski, died Tuesday January 31, 2006 at his residence. Born June 21, 1939 in Lee Co., Va., he was the son of the late Ollie Hughes Skeens and Stanley Paul Skeens.

Sam was a member of the First Christian Church and attended the Dublin Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, had been employed with the Radford Army Ammunition Plant, for many years operated his own service stations in Pulaski, Dublin, and Radford, and most recently worked for Pulaski Furniture Corporation.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alva Gregory Skeens, a son, Gregory Paul Skeens and a brother, Tommy Skeens. He is survived by one son, Sam Franklin Skeens, Jr. and his wife Debra of Fisherville, Va.; two brothers, Richard Skeens and his wife Nancy of Wytheville and Benny Skeens and his wife Dale of Dublin; two sisters, Clarice Tolbert and her husband Wayne of Dublin, Virginia Lowry and her husband George of Richmond; also survived by a granddaughter, Shannon Whitney Skeens; two special nephews, Todd and Stephen Gregory of Dublin, along with many other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday February 2, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons with the Rev. David Hoagland officiating. Interment will follow in Thorn Spring Cemetery. Visiting will be anytime Wednesday after 4 p.m. at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Flowers will be appreciated, but for those who wish, they may make memorial contributions to Dublin Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O.
