John David Sharpe, 82, of Doe Creek Road in Pembroke, died Saturday morning, December 2, 2006 at Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg.

Born in Price, N.C. on April 24, 1924, he was a son of the late Earl C., Sr. and Annie Smith Sharpe. David was retired from RAAP; was a veteran of the US Army in World War II serving in the China, Burma, India Theatre of Operations; was a member of Giles Lodge No. 106 AF&AM for over 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret White Sharpe on October 4, 2005, and a brother, Earl C. Sharpe, Jr. Surviving are two brothers, Joe H. Sharpe of Pembroke, and Samuel T. Sharpe of Roanoke; four sisters, Nancy S. Williams of Pearisburg, Pauline S. DeHart of Peterstown, W.Va., Aline S. Conn of Richmond, Mildred S. Ward of Greensboro, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, December 4, 2006 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Birchlawn Abbey in Pearisburg with Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating and graveside rites by Giles Lodge No. 106 AF&AM Pearisburg following. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke, Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to The American Cancer Society or the charity of choice.
