Rutland, Leon Watson, Jr.

Leon Watson Rutland, Jr., 87, of Blacksburg, Va., died Monday, August 28, 2006. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Dr. Rutland was a Professor Emeritus of Mathematics at Virginia Tech and Colorado University.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Gaboury Rutland; two daughters, Basia Irland of Albuquerque, N.M., and Lynne Gallimore and husband, Jay of Wilson; a granddaughter, Britney Gallimore Zaytoun of New Bern; two grandsons, Hunter Gallimore and wife Angelia of Wilmington and Derek Irland of Alberta, Calgary, Canada; six great-grandchildren, Meghan, Hayden, Logan and Jordan Gallimore, Georgie and Caroline Zaytoun; and a brother, Don Rutland and wife Rosemary of Orange City, Fla. Dr. Rutland was preceded in death by his parents, Leon Watson and Suetta Mulkey Rutland.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in his memory may be directed to WilMed Hospice, 1705 Tarboro St. SW, Wilson, N.C. 27893. Arrangements are by Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
