Pickford, Marie Rita Cavaretta
Marie Rita Cavaretta Pickford, 80, of Floyd, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2006.
She spent her whole life dedicated to the Catholic Church and she attended All Saints Catholic Church in Floyd.
Marie loved to sing and was featured on Sundays on WPEN in south Philadelphia, Pa. Marie performed supporting roles in opera for the Metropolitan Opera Company at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia, Pa.
After the death of her husband, she moved to Floyd in 1998 where she began singing in the Lutheran Church Choir and the Community Chorus. Marie was an inspiration, as well as, a grandmother to many in the church and the community.
She was the daughter of the late Anthony and Adelina Cavaretta. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Pickford; two daughters, Ellen Marie Pickford, Rita Joan Pickford.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Charles A. and Pat Pickford, Stephen J. and Alta Pickford, Jeanne M. and Scott Miller, Anne M. Denton and fiance Mark Soileau; sisters, Sr. Rita Cavaretta, Joan Scutti; nine grandchildren, Asa Pickford, Zachariah Pickford, Sarah Pickford, Eileen Pickford, Colin Pickford, Louis Miller, Justin Miller, Chelsea Denton, Brandon Denton; six great-grandchildren, Isaiah Pickford, Ethan Pickford, Indigo Pickford, Ellisa Denton, Tara Miller, Braeden Miller; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
The family will receive friends starting at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church (All Saints Catholic Church) with Mass beginning at 5:30 p.m. A reception dinner will follow Mass. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. A prayer service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church (All Saints Catholic Church) with Father Charles Brickner. Interment will follow in Jacksonville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made in memory of Marie to All Saints Catholic Church Building Fund, c/o St. Joseph Catholic Church, 99 Joy Ranch Road, Woodlawn, Va. 24381.
