Phelps, Sophie Zawko

Sophie Mary Zawko Phelps, age 75, of Christiansburg, passed away Monday, August 7, 2006, at Montgomery Regional Hospital.

The daughter of the late John and Katherine (Cucik) Zawko, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Hugo Lee Phelps, brothers, Pete, Nick, Mike, Steven and Joseph, also a sister, Ann Hoodak.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Kenneth Haines and daughter, Avery of Charlotte, NC, Lee and Jill Phelps and daughter Autumn of Satellite Beach, FL; brothers, Charles and Paul all of Elmira, NY; sisters, Mary Jansen, Julia Hamula, Katherine Cole and husband, Maynard all of Horseheads, NY; several nieces and nephews and dear friends, Eleanor and Charlie King of Christiansburg, Gladys C. Bannon of Elmira, NY.

It was her request there be no visitation at the Funeral Home. Graveside services will be private. Sophie requested flowers be omitted and memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
