PETERS, Rufus Marsh, Jr.
Rufus Marsh Peters, Jr., (Pete), born September 16, 1915, the master of good yarns and entertaining stories, told his last tale Saturday, June 24, 2006.
He joins his parents, Rufus Marsh Peters and Mattie Mae Polly Peters; beloved wives, Carolyn Price and Maxine Hamilton Peters; two brothers, Dr. James P. Peters and Joseph Peters; three sisters, Mary Peters Cranwell, Brownie Peters Milner and Dorothy Peters Martin; and one grandson, Scott Sigler, in the grand final chapter.
He has left his legacy to a long list of family members, two daughters, Cary Lee Sigler of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Lisa Perkins of Michigan; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Pete is well known for his breathless retelling of his service as a Merchant Marine in World War II as well as more than a few colorfully embellished tales told with a twinkle in his eye and a chuckle hidden in his expressive face. He devoted himself to family and freely extended a loving embrace to include his many nieces and nephews. Pete has always been a part of our life; the man of small stature with big tales and true heart.
Services and interment to be held at Arlington National Cemetery. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
