Peterman, Bernice Tolbert

Bernice Tolbert Peterman, 92, of Christiansburg, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2006. Bernice was proud of her accomplishment of being one of seven class members to graduate from Buffalo Mountain High School in 1933. She was also proud of her grandchildren’s accomplishments three generations later.

She worked as a riveter and built airplanes at Glen L. Martin Aircraft Company in Baltimore, Md. during World War II. She returned to Christiansburg and worked in the old Overall Factory for many years. She based her life on hard work and lived by those ethics. She was a charter member of Buffalo Mountain Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wyatt and Emma Spence Tolbert; husband, Earl Goodson Peterman, and brother, Palmer Tolbert. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, William (Billy) and Mary Peterman, Christiansburg; grandchildren, Edwin (Eddie) Peterman, Wilma and husband Matthew Cross, all of Washington, D.C.; sisters, Thelma Keith, Floyd, Helen Rutrough, Salem; brothers, Glen Tolbert, Floyd, Ward Tolbert, Bassett, Husten Tolbert, Patrick Springs.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday, October 20, 2006 at Jacksonville Cemetery, Floyd, with the Rev. Emory Tarpley officiating. Visitation will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday, prior to the service, at Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd. In lieu of flowers, please remember Bernice with your time and resources to visit and help the elderly and shut-ins in need.
