Payne, James Franklin
James Franklin Payne, 80, of Blacksburg, Va., and formerly of Richmond, Va., passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2010, at Skyline Manor Nursing & Rehab in Floyd, Va. Mr. Payne was born in English, W.Va., on June 14, 1930. He was a son of the late William H. Payne Sr. and Rosa Belle Adair Payne Hagerman.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters; and four brothers. Mr. Payne was a former Lieutenant in the United States Navy, a graduate of Virginia Tech and received his Masters Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. He was a retired administrator for the Commonwealth of Virginia and attended the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Broyles Payne, of Blacksburg; one daughter, Susan Campbell, of Berkley Springs, W.Va.; one brother, William H. Payne Jr., of Warm Hearth Village in Blacksburg; two grandchildren, Allen Campbell and Vickie Campbell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 26, 2010, at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va., with the Rev. Harry Wright officiating with entombment following the service. Online condolences can be sent to the family at givensfuneralhome.com.
