Newton, Jr., Maury Claiborne
Maury Claiborne Newton Jr., Internist and Cardiologist, died Saturday, January 7, 2006 at his home in Kennesaw, Georgia. Born in 1927 in Roanoke, Virginia, Dr. Newton served in the United States Navy near the end of World War II.
He graduated from Wake Forest University where he was a member of PHI Beta Kappa and Kappa Alpha Fraternity and from the Medical College of Virginia.
Dr. Newton enjoyed a practice in Narrows from 1954 to 1973. He served on the Staff of the University of Virginia Medical School as Assistant Professor of Medicine. In 1977, he joined a classmate in Marietta, Georgia, in the practice of medicine. He retired in October 1998.
Dr. Newton is survived by his wife, Pamela Croy Newton of Kennesaw, Georgia; a son, Maury Claiborne Newton III of Chesterfield, Virginia; two daughters, Cynthia Chadwick, Moorpark, California and Lucy Maloney, Raleigh, North Carolina; seven grandchildren; and a brother, Dr. Richard Milton Newton of Roanoke.
Dr. Newton was a member of St. Catherine’s Episcopal Church in Marietta, Georgia, where a memorial service will be Saturday, January 14, 2006. The family requests that memorial donations be made locally to Carilion Giles Memorial Foundation, 1 Taylor Avenue, Pearisburg, Virginia.
