MYERS, Steve H.

Steve H. Myers, 88, of Pulaski passed away on February 11, 2006 after a short illness.

He was a long time resident of the town of Pulaski, Va. and loyal member of the First United Methodist Church. He was born in Mingo County West Va. to William A. Myers of Wytheville and Sophia Ward Myers of Martin County Ky. He is preceded in death by one sister, Faye Taylor, of Lake Gaston, Va. and a son Leon K. Myers of Pulaski, Va. Steve retired from Radford Army Ammunition Plant in 1978 after 28 years service.

Those left to cherish his memories in his immediate family are his wife, Belle (married 69 years) and one son and his family, Keith and Sandy Myers; grandsons, Greg Myers and Scott Myers all of Roanoke Va.; granddaughter Tracy White of Fredericksburg, Va.; niece Eleanor Warthen of Fountain Valley, Calif.; cousins Sam Myers of Bedford Co. Va.; Jimmy White of Pulaski, Va. and Mary Anderson of Pulaski, Va.

He was a familiar face at the Pulaski Country Club and on his fishing boat on Claytor Lake in his youth, and at many of the local high school and college sporting events. An avid lover of sports, it wasn’t uncommon to find him watching one sporting event on TV and listening to another on the radio at the same time.

A Mason since 1948, a founding member of the first rescue squad in his home town, and former Scoutmaster, he has been involved in community affairs most of his life. He was a friend to all who knew him and was never known to utter a harsh word about anyone. He was a kind man and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the First United Methodist Church, Pulaski with the Rev. Hugh Kilgore officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin with Pulaski Masonic Lodge conducting graveside rites. Visiting will be Monday evening from Stevens Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, we are asking memorials made be made to the “Children’s Summer Camp Fund” C/O First United Methodist Church, 135 4th St. NW. Pulaski, Va. 24301.
