Martin, Geary Duane
Geary Duane Martin, 66, of Floyd, passed away on February 5, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents William D. Martin, Mary Kenley Kirtner and brother, Thomas Martin.
Geary still currently holds the record for Pole Vault, 13ft 2 3/4in, at Radford High School where he also graduated in 1975. After high school Geary joined the Army, he served in the 82nd Air Born Division earning his Parachute Badge and Expert Badge M-16. After serving 3 years Geary was honorably discharged in 1978. For 40 plus years he worked as an Engineer at Volvo where he also retired.
Geary is survived by his wife, Leda Martin; sons, Garett and, Devon Martin, Josh Carr; daughters-in-law, Courtney Kiphuth, Leslie Gilbert; grandchildren, Hudson, Lilian and Saige Martin, Ethan and Morgan Carr; sister, Sha Wittamore; Uncle and Aunt, Ralph and Evalina Kenley ; mother and father in law, Bill and Annie Oxendine; brother and sister in law, Tonna and Wally Galla; beloved dog, Purdy; the Ladies of the Round Table, along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and loved ones.
You could always find Geary sitting on the back porch having in-depth conversations with Purdy because as Geary would say Leda never listens. Avid Hokie fan. A special thank you to the staff at Carillion Critical Care Unit for their care and compassion.
A Celebration of life will be held at Gardner Funeral Home on Saturday February 10, 2024, at 4pm with Melissa Neal Officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Foundation in Geary’s name.
