Martin, Esther A.
Esther A. Martin, 87, of Blacksburg, died Thursday, March 2, 2006 at Montgomery Regional Hospital.
She was born in West Pike, PA on March 27, 1918 to the late J. Kent and Gertrude Martin and also preceded in death by two brothers, Warren B. Martin and David K. Martin.
Miss Martin graduated from Galeton High School in 1936 and received her teacher’s Degree from Mansfield College, her Masters in Home Economics from Penn State University and her Doctorate from Michigan State University. She taught at the University of Maine in Orono, Maine and moved to Blacksburg, Va. in 1963 to teach at VA Tech. She was a member of Blacksburg United Methodist Church and was in the church choir.
She is survived by her brother, Paul C. Martin and wife Margaret; nephews, James P. Martin, wife Maria, Warren C. Martin, wife Kay; nieces Jean V. Martin, April Martin Jennette, husband Culpepper (Cully), and C. Wendy Martin Gardiner, husband Edward.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, March 6, 2006 at 11 a.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home with the Rev. Reggie Tuck officiating. Interment will take place in West Pike Cemetery, Galenton, Pa. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Blacksburg United Methodist Church P. O. Box 931, Blacksburg, Va. 24063 or to charity of choice. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home 150 Country Club Drive SW, Blacksburg, Va.
