Marshall, Glen Allen

Glen Allen Marshall (Poppy), went to his heavenly home on September 25, 2023 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC as the sunset shown through his window. He fought a long illness to be with the family he loved more than life. Glen was born April 24, 1954 in the serenity of Giles County to the late Sam Marshall and Jo Mae Williams Marshall.

Glen, a man of great wisdom and gentle character, was known for his adventurous spirit that he carried throughout his life. He was an engineer by profession, serving diligently in the County of Giles. Yet, his heart was ever tied to the open wilderness, the verdant gardens, and the mysteries of the natural world. He was an avid hunter, often seen at the family’s Marshall Cabin on Doe Mountain and the cabin in Clendennin, where he cherished every moment spent.

Glen’s love for the outdoors extended to his passion for gardening. His hands, skilled in handling the intricacies of electronics, also nurtured the soil, bringing forth life in the form of beautiful flora. He was a man of many interests, a keen collector, a fossil finder, and a mountaineer. His adventurous heart and wise mind found joy in the simple pleasures of life.

Glen was a family man who treasured time spent with his loved ones. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Sue Songer Marshall; his son, Matt Marshall of Wilmington, NC; daughter Jessica Peoples and her companion KC of Newport, VA; his cherished grandson, Chandler Marshall; his brother, Julian Dwight “Sammy” Marshall and wife Shirley of Narrows, VA; his sister-in-law, Barbara Dunn; several loving nieces and nephews; and two close friends, Robert Smith and Tom Garrett. His fur babies, Pearl and Fuzzy, who brought immense joy into his life, will miss their loving master. Glen was preceded in death by his parents, Sam Julian Marshall and Jo Mae Williams Marshall.

Glen lived a life full of seasons, each marked by love, strength, and courage. His life was a testament to the wisdom of these words, as he embraced both the joys and challenges that came his way. He walked through this life with the grace of a mountaineer, the curiosity of a collector, the wisdom of an engineer, and the love of a family man. Now, he has embarked on his final adventure, guided by the hand of the Lord.
