Laddie Marin, Colonel (US Air Force Retired), 84, of Blacksburg died, Saturday, May 13, 2006 at Montgomery Regional Hospital.

He was born in Mansfield, Ohio, on December 19, 1921 to the late George and Mary Pikl Marin. Preceded in death by a son, Robert T. Marin, whom Col. Marin will be buried with in Arlington National Cemetery. Col. Marin grew up in Kokomo, Ind., and was a graduate of Indiana University. After serving in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, Laddie retired from the Air Force after achieving the rank of Colonel. He retired to Blacksburg in 1973 and served as the Assistant Commandant for the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets for 13 years. An avid golfer and gardener, he was a beloved husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara A. Marin of Blacksburg; one daughter, Lisa A. Johnson of Pensacola, Fla.; five sons, Stephen Marin of Denver, Colo., G. David Marin, Denver, Colo., Laddie Marin, Jr., Phoenix, Ariz., Christopher D. Marin, Blacksburg, Michael P. Marin, St. Paul, Minn.; one brother, Robert Marin of Victor, N.Y.; and fifteen grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Blacksburg Rescue Squad, 200 N. Progress Street, Blacksburg, VA 24060. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Dr, Blacksburg.
